There's no way you can know how your body's going to deal with long distances unless you get out there and do some before racing. I also strongly believe in banking long runs and races. My recovery from the shorter ultra race distances has greatly improved compared to what it was just last fall. I'm hoping to get the same results with 50 milers after I finish a few more races. Finally, I know that I need at least several hours a week on hills to cramp-proof my legs; strength training isn't enough.

I will at least say one good thing about it: their recommendation that you do some exercise circuits soon after an ultra, no matter how much it hurts, is spot on.Unknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03547209512005143498noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4117671123395795249.post-45655955305875220952010-07-01T17:35:42.373-04:002010-07-01T17:35:42.373-04:00Fourth, on long runs you get to test your equipmen...Fourth, on long runs you get to test your equipment, nutrition and hydration strategies. On a half marathon you don't need any of that.

I've been doing not CFE, but similar style training plus a long run on the weekends. I think the long run is necessary.

Hope your run goes well :)annahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06827283656557271443noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4117671123395795249.post-37514147948922173902010-07-01T17:17:58.581-04:002010-07-01T17:17:58.581-04:00duuuude, with all respect to cross fit and all the...duuuude, with all respect to cross fit and all the other weight/ strength training programs that spout this same thing - bite me! i am not a body builder, and i am not overly concerned with being as "generally" fit as i can be. i am a long distance runner, who wants to run long distances, not bench press a car or do 100 burpees. that stuff is great - but we're runners. we run. so just go and friggin RUN! stomp that 68 miles into the ground, brother!shelhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08484258407276573441noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4117671123395795249.post-87355779236606338962010-07-01T14:06:34.234-04:002010-07-01T14:06:34.234-04:00Very cool!
